Brady Corbet | What is fame.

Brady Corbet | Metal Magazine

You may or may not have watched any of his previous work as an actor – although, for instance, he’s starred in Mysterious Skin, Funny Games, and Melancholia –, but his debut as a film director, titled The Childhood of a Leader (2015), acquired great praise. Now, Brady Corbet is presenting his second feature film, Vox Lux, with Natalie Portman and Jude Law as the main characters, and with Willem Dafoe as the narrator of the story, which explores the effect of creating a media icon, a teen pop star from the 21st century.

Netflix’s 11 Best Art and Fashion Movies

What is « art »? I bring up that age-old question not just to facilitate a meaningful discussion around the arbitrary value we assign to the efforts and taste of others, but also because the category of « fashion and art movies » is a somewhat nebulous concept (is the category of “fashion movie” strictly limited to movies about fashion, or can any movie with impeccable costume design—think Sofia Coppola’s Marie Antoinette—crack the list?). In any case, here are the best films streaming on Netflix right now that are in one way or another preoccupied with creativity, aesthetics, and fancy clothes.

The Prettiest Horror Movies Currently on Netflix.

Ever since Dario Argento invented the idea of a horror movie that doesn’t suck ass to look at with 1977’s Suspiria, the beautiful horror film has become almost a mini-genre unto itself. This is barely an exaggeration; Argento spent years chasing the delicately balanced alchemy of scares and colors he achieved with Suspiria. (There have also been no small amount of poor imitators.)
Horror is a notoriously cheap genre, and also one in which unpracticed filmmakers like to cut their teeth, meaning a lot of what comes down the ol’ spooky pipeline looks like shit, even now. Here are nine horror movies on Netflix that buck that trend, and actually spend their runtime looking pretty damn good.
