Meet the Kings and Queens of Afropunk Street Style 2018.

Afropunk street style just somehow keeps getting better. The Brooklyn edition of the Afropunk Festival got underway Saturday with sets by Kaytranada, Miguel, Jessie Reyez, and Lion Babe, with Erykah BaduJanelle Monae, and Tyler, the Creator still to come on Sunday. But the real show wasn’t on stage—it was in the audience, where fans turned out in their most impressive festival ensembles that make Coachella look positively tame. With the peace and festive love all around Commodore Barry Park in Brooklyn’s Fort Greene neighborhood, Afropunk invites its attendees to create a space of body-positivity, and that apparently extends to its fashion. As the last major New York festival of the summer, it closes out the season on a high note. See all the best looks—and the many crowns—from the 2017 Afropunk Festival street style, here.

Simon Burstall | Metal Magazine

Twenty-seven years ago, a 16-year-old boy discovered the culture of raves in Sidney and immersed fully into it. Our community. Simon Burstall was just a teenager shooting his friends while having fun. Many people do so, but that simple fact can make a difference when there is talent running through your veins. It was Simon’s case.

Michael Jang.

Michael Jang | Metal Magazine

After almost forty years, Michael Jang decided to submit the photographs he took in his twenties of his native California for consideration to SFMOMA. This is how this story begins. Punk subculture, his Chinese-American family or David Bowie are just some of the stars of his black-and-white pictures. He captured the essence of California in the 1970s and ‘80s. Through his work, you can revive those eclectic years, even if you weren’t there. Now in his sixties, we talk with him about his book Who is Michael Jang (published by Atélier Editions), his exhibition at SFMOMA and why you should never give up.
