Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, they say. Indeed, each and every person exhibits and values beauty in their own unique way. However, the advertising and fashion industries and the media sure know how to make us feel about it. And recently, the paradigm is changing. About beauty but also diversity, inclusivity and tokenism, we speak with model Naomi Janumala, signed to Models 1, who got her big break as the face of Rihanna’s Fenty line campaign. Coming from an Indian background, the nineteen-year-old model shares her views on discrimination, hard work, the lights and shadows of modelling, beauty standards, and the future.

Currently working in the residence of the late Alexander McQueen’s Sarabande Foundation, artist Emma Witter shares aspects of her work with the British fashion designer: the theatricality, the darkness, the romanticism, and the love for memento mori. If McQueen’s trademark is a skull, Witter works with bones to create hauntingly beautiful flowers and vases. From September 18 to 22, her work is to be exhibited at Remember You Must Die, a solo show at the foundation in London. Today, we speak with her about material experimentation, the morals of using bones, and where is the limit between the macabre and the artistic.

It’s no secret that the club scene in Berlin has been thriving for decades. People from all over the globe travel there to party for three days and nights straight, lining up for hours to get into cult places like Berghain, Tresor or Griessemuhle. But when did it all start? At a key moment in contemporary history: the fall of the Wall. Opening on September 12, the exhibition No Photos on the Dance Floor! Berlin 1989 – Today at C/O Berlin gathers pictures of the evolution of the club scene, taken by photographers like Wolfgang Tillmans and George Nebieridze or even DJs and sound artists like Alva Noto or Marcel Dettman.

Mercredi 4 septembre, à la Fondation Louis Vuitton, s’est déroulée la finale de la sixième édition du Prix LVMH pour les jeunes créateurs de mode. Au palmarès, on retrouve le Sud-Africain Thebe Magugu, lauréat du Grand Prix et l’Israélien Hed Mayner, qui remporte le Prix Spécial, rebaptisé cette année Prix Lagerfeld.

Relancé en 2017 avec Shayne Oliver, le label Helmut Lang présentait aujourd’hui la deuxième collection des designers Mark Thomas et Thomas Cawson depuis leur arrivée à sa tête. Une fois de plus, les deux Britanniques semblent rester sagement fidèles à l’identité du label autrichien en reprenant les éléments qui ont fait la force de son minimalisme radical dès la fin des années 90 : des pièces aux dominantes blanches, argentées et noires, des vestes en cuir patiné blanc, des pantalons effet chromé et larges manteaux en latex couleur brute…
